Our Story

How it all started...

First Baptist Church has a long history. The church formed in the same year that the town of Holyoke was established, 1888. Our first pastor also led a church in Sterling, CO, and rode back and forth the fifty or so miles on horseback. In that lengthy expanse of years, we have occupied only three permanent church buildings, with being in our current building since 2010. While the specific ministries through the years have been adjusted to meet the needs of our community, the message has remained the same - stay true to the principles of God's Word and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Expanding the vision...

Our Lord calls His church to go into all the world to preach the Gospel. First Baptist accomplishes this calling by supporting missions and missionaries who have been led by the Holy Spirit to establishes churches and ministries in foreign lands, as well as ministries based in our nation. As God leads and supplies, many in our fellowship travel to other countries for short-term opportunities to spread the love of Christ.

Where we are headed...

There is a renewed excitement at First Baptist Church of Holyoke. We are growing in our understanding of Scripture and its impact on our lives. We are seeing many join our fellowship. Lives are being knit together with a common mission, a common goal, and a common love for our Lord Jesus Christ. God has blessed us with a flourishing youth ministry and an expanding reach to the children of our area. Our Sunday evening Hispanic congregation continues to grow together. And new doors are being opened for further outreach to the nations. We are a group of messy people with messy problems who serve a big, big God that somehow brings us together in unity. Come and see!
